A Nationwide Community Survey of Prevalence of Circumcision among Egyptian Children and Risk of Hepatitis B Viral Infection

AIM: To assess prevalence and risk factors of circumcision among Egyptian children to the for HBV infection them. METHODS: A nationwide community survey was carried out on 3306 aged from 9 months 16 years, both genders. Data were collected during face interviews with parents children. All studied had received vaccination infancy. Total anti-HBc HBsAg assessed by ELISA followed DNA detection positive cases Real-time PCR. RESULTS: Prevalence 92.3% boys 29.7% girls. The percentage circumcised girls significantly higher in rural (38.1%) than urban (21.1%), P<0.01 more Upper (42.2%) Lower Egypt (27.6%) compared Cairo, Capital (14.1%), P˂0.001. Boys showed (94.1%) areas (90.1%), P˂ 0.001.The breakthrough infection, detected HBV-DNA, 14/3306 (0.42%). No significant differences between non-circumcised regarding different serological tests P > 0.05.
